'cancel' and 'postpone'
Cancel and postpone are used to talk about events that have been arranged in advance.

To cancel an event means to decide officially that it will not take place.

The performances were cancelled because the leading man was ill.

The powerboat championships at Poole were cancelled yesterday because of poor weather.

To postpone an event means to arrange for it to take place at a later time than was originally planned.

The crew did not know that the invasion had been postponed.

Football games had to be postponed for a couple of days.
